[rcvd 03-Nov-2000] TREY MARIE WINERY Volume 1, Issue 1 October 24, 2000 The Syre family of Bellingham, WA and the Dunham family of Walla Walla WA would like to introduce you to Trey Marie! This joint venture was born out of, first and foremost, a love for wine. Both families share a passion for good wine, and after sharing several bottles, decided that they should harness the energy coming out of the Walla Walla Valley and start a new winery. The first vintage of Trey Marie, a "Walla Walla" style blend of several Bordeaux varietals, was bottled on March 29, 2000. This was the first step in an ambitious project that will see Trey Marie grow from our first release of 1,100 cases, to our eventual goal of a three-tiered winery producing 20,000 cases annually. Trey Marie has purchased a 32 acre estate South of Walla Walla on State Line Rd. where the winery will be built. It is an amazing site, with a 6 million gallon natural spring fed pond sitting at the bottom of a knoll and surrounded by the Walla Walla river on three sides. The site overlooks the Blue Mountains with a beautiful south-east exposure. This estate will have vineyards surrounding the winery. Our first and only release for the year 2000 is our 1998 Trutina. Trutina means balance in Latin, and we believe that this wine exemplifies the balance and integration among different varietals. It is a blend of 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Suavignon, two classic Bordeaux varietals that have proven themselves well suited for Eastern Washington's hot, dry summers. Eric Dunham is the winemaker for Trey Marie which most of you know through Dunham Cellars. Tasting notes by Eric are on the back of this newsletter. As far as Trey Marie's future is concerned, it looks BIG and is moving FAST! Until the estate comes, we will continue to use the facilities at Dunham Cellars for crush and barrel storage. We have another 1,100 cases of 1999 Trutina in barrel and, after bottling next March or April, it will be ready for release in fall of 2001. This year, Trey Marie will add a Semillon to the portfolio, as well as an everyday red table wine, which will be the first tier of our threee-tiered system. Once the winery is built, we will produce an ultra premium red wine from our estate vineyard. This will be our signature estate wine, and one we will be proud to hang our hat on.
