Dear Friends,

The quality of the 1997 vintage was excellent and because the Cabernet
Sauvignon grapes produced a balanced wine with softer tannins and
substantial fruit, this wine is 100% Cabernet! In my experience, it is
unusual to produce such a balanced wine from this grape without blending
in at least a small amount of Merlot.

The 1997 Cabernet grapes were from the Ciel du Cheval, Charbonneau,
Windrow and Champoux vineyards. These are among the oldest vineyards in
Washington State and as they continue to mature, the quality of the grapes
continues to improve also.  The attributes in this wine I am most happy
with are its color, depth, complexity and length. Unlike our =9296 Cab,
which was a late bloomer, this wine is more accessible at this stage but
will continue to soften and develop more subtle flavors and aromas as it
ages.  We have asked for a slight price increase but hope you believe our
wine remains a good value when compared to the price of other wines of
comparable quality.  Our marketing program for this year again consists of
enclosing a couple of recent reviews of our '96 and '97 wines.
