I thought many of you that have visited our winery over the years might like to know that one of our belioved founders, a true pioneer in the Washington Wine Industry, and my dear mother, Dee Wallace has passed away. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, June 29th at 1 p.m at the winery. Follwing is an obituary DeElda (Dee) Irene McNally Wallace, 83, a former resident of Prosser, passed away on May 4, 2001 in Gilbert, AZ after a long and brave battle with cancer. Dee Wallace was born on August 5, 1918 in Seattle, WA to William J. McNally and Katherine Deuble McNally and spent her early years in the Lakewood Community of Seattle, graduating from Franklin High School in 1936. On October 12, 1940, Dee married Jerry Wallace of Seattle. Dee worked in the restaurant business for many years. She and Jerry taught square and round dancing in the Puget Sound area. Dee was a nationally recognized sewing instructor and designer of square and round dance clothing as well as an editor and writer for several square dance magazines. Dee and Jerry resided in the Seattle area until the early '70s when they moved to Prosser where they and their family planted a vineyard and founded Hinzerling Vineyards and Winery. Dee was the secretary-treasurer and culinary director of the firm and was considered one of the pioneers and a founding matriarch of the Washington Wine Industry. She was a talented artist, noted gourmet cook and an avid horticulturist and member of Prosser Gardeners In the mid-'80s, Dee and Jerry retired and became "snowbirds," spending their winters in Apache Junction, AZ, where they were pioneer residents at Roadhaven Resort, returning to Prosser in the summers to help out at the winery. Dee was preceded in death by her mother and father, William and Katherine McNally. She is survived by her husband, Jerry Wallace, of Apache Junction, AZ ; son, Michael Wallace and his wife, Frankie, of Prosser, WA, son, Steven Wallace, and his wife, Margie, of Redmond, WA: daughter, Pam Wallace Hallenius, and her husband, Kenneth Hallenius , of Kent, WA; grandchildren, Sean Wallace, Katherine Wallace, Scott Wallace, Brian Wallace, Lindsay Wallace, Kenneth Hallenius ,Jr., Thomas Hallenius, and Denise Hallenius and two great-grandchildren. There will be a memorial service at Hinzerling Winery on Saturday, June 15 at 1 p.m. Memorials may be made to Otto & Edna Neely Hospice House, Gilbert, AZ.
