[newsletter rcvd 25-Nov-1999] ---------------------- Dunham Cellars November 1999 WOW!! It's hard to know here to start since our last newsletter in May. The 1997 Cabernet Sauvignon of about 370 cases was released in September and sold out in less than a month, The wine had earlier won a gold medal and "Best of Show" from among 149 wineries at the Northwest Wine Summit and another gold medal at the Seattle Enological Society competition. It's also been a very busy year on the "charitable" side of the winery. We attended the NW WineAuction in Woodinville, WA which benefits the Children;s Hospital in Seattle, where our auction item brought in $20,000 for the hospital! We also particiated in the Sun Valley Auction, Poncho, Rapael House, Planned Parenthood, and the Blue Mountain Humane Society events. Also in September we released our wine to many of the best restaurants in Seattle, Sun Valley, New York, Portland, Boston, Minneapolis and Las Vegas. You can read more about this on our upcoming website which is dunhamcellars.com, available later this year. We are very pleased to announce that Liz Wylie has joined our staff and will be full-time at the beginning of the year. Liz brings a wide variety of talents to our winery and we are anxious for you to meet her. CRUSH 1999 The 1999 crush was completed mid-November. In addition to about 2,000 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon, we will produce our first vintage of Syrah of approximately 150 cases. HOLIDAY BARREL TASTING Don't forget the first weekend in December for the Holiday Barrel Tasting. This very festive event is a MUST DO as the wineries in Walla Walla open their doors and preview the wines to be released in the year 2000. This year we will decorate the walls with hundreds of Christmas poinsettias as well as the artwork of local artist Amy Glase. We will be open Saturday and Sunday 11am-5pm. Come sample the 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon and taste our Moroccan Lamb Stew. See you there!!! VINEYARDS COMING THIS SPRING Finally, we're expecting to plant our first vineyard, mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, in the Spring up on the hill next to L'Ecole No. 41 winery near Lowden, WA. This vineyard will be about 20 acres with a portion of it terraced into the bluff overlooking the Walla Walla Valley. This will be a very exciting project which we have looked forward to for some time.
