[rcvd 24-Apr-1999] ---------------------- Dunham Cellars April 15, 1999 We are very excited to have you on our mailing list for our first ever newsletter! A lot has happened at Dunham Cellars since or first vintage in 1995. As many of you know, Dunham Cellars began producing Cabernet Sauvignon's in 1995 at L'Ecole No. 41, where Eric Dunham was assistant winemaker. Production in this first year was about 200 cases. In 1996, due to the severe freeze in Washington, production was limitied to 70 cases. Both the 1995 and 1996 Cabs were sold out in a short time, but many of you had the chance to try these two vintages. The 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon received an 89 rating in the Wine Spectator and a 93 rating in The Wine Enthusiast. The 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon was chosen by Palisade Restaurant in Seattle to accompany the main entrees at the Beard Foundation Dinner held in New York in February. In 1997 we produced 400 cases of Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine is now safely in the bottle and will have it's debut at Taste Washington held at the Paramount Theatre in Seattle, April 18th. The full release of this wine will be in November, 1999. Prior to release, we will be accepting orders from [Dunham mailing list members]. We are proud of this vintage and feel it is one of our best ever. Our 1998 crush allowed us to produce 1,200 cases which are still in the barrel awaiting bottling some time in the Spring of year 2000. Eric has been very busy over the last few months and will get even busier from now on. In addition to attending the Beard Foundation Dinner in February, he just returned from the annual ZAP tasting in Napa, will participate in Taste Washington, in Seattle April 18th, go to Boston in May with the Washington Wine Commision's US Tasting Tour, and participate in the Cystic Fibrosis Charity held at the Paramount Studios in Hollywood, CA. In March 1999, Dunham Cellars began remodeling a facility at the Walla Walla Regional Airport. This 5,400 square foot WWII building will become our winery for the next three or four years. We plan on using this great old building until we complete our own winery on 21 acres just east of L'Ecole. We are located at 150 E. Boeing, just east of the airport terminal. We will be open at out airport winery on May 1st & 2nd, 10am-5pm. We will also be open for Balloon Stampede weekend, the 2nd weekend of May, by appointment only. And of course, we will be open for the 1999 Christmas Barrel Tasting the 1st weekend in December. Occasionally, we will have special events at this facility and will keep you posted.
