Page last updated: 9-Jun-2005, Page generated: 11-Sep-2005

History:
Formed shortly after Repeal (1933), the Pomerelle Co. merged with the National Wine Co. (also formed shortly after Repeal) to form American Wine Growers in 1954 (primarily known for fruit wines). In 1961 they introduced the Hadassim Kosher wine label. Their first Chateau Ste. Michelle release was in 1967. In 1973 it was puchased by a group of investors headed by Wallace E. Opdycke and the name changed. The U. S. Tobacco Co. bought the entire operation in 1974.
